Differences between Japanese Acupuncture vs Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture - Tao Acupuncture Clinic Perth

Acupuncture is the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) method of relieving troublesome ailments by placing small needles at specific points on the body to restore the flow of "qi", or life energy, which is believed to get trapped by illness. Japanese acupuncture has some subtle differences from Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In TCM, needles are inserted perpendicularly into the skin, 12 to 15 mm in length, and with a curvature of 1 to 2 mm.

In Japanese acupuncture the needles are inserted perpendicularly into the skin and placed at a distance of 3 mm from each other in accordance with the meridian theory. The needles used in Japanese acupuncture are 0.25 mm in diameter. Traditional Chinese Medicine is more widely accepted in China, while Japan relies on western medicine.
